i dont know how the itunes work when it restores the device
but why can't there be a programme made only for restoring?
what i mean by that is, why can't there be a programme
that is the same as itunes but only with the restoring capability?
(so the itunes programme without all the other function but the restoring
capability)

so people won't need to use tinyumbrella, editing hosts file, etc when
downgrading or restoring using custom ipsw

Well, having iTunes is a fixed requirement. So you'll need at least 2 programs anyway.

And since we already have iTunes, and it's THE reference implementation of an iDevice manager, we may as well leave the restoring to it.
TinyUmbrella is a good 2nd program to use, if you want to downgrade to an unsupported version of iOS.

There is no need to touch your hosts file, or do anything else other than run those 2 programs.

Well when i downgraded my ipod touch 4g from 4.3.5 to 4.3.3 , using tinyunbrella gave me an itunes error 20. someone on youtube said turn off all the firewalls, all the security stuff, but that didnt work as well. i was digging the internet and someone said to edit the hosts file and add the saurik server. i did that and THEN i was able to downgrade.

So what im saying above is
you do need to edit the hosts file for maybe some computers

but it would still be a great help if there IS a pc programme i stated on my question.
