Hi joeljoel, I had the same issue "Stuck at the activation screen". What i did is i used the latest version of Redsn0w and hit "Jailbreak" then into DFU mode and the phone baypassed the activation screen. I hope that was helpful.

all the links in this forum aren't working. can anyone help? i have an iphone 4 on 4.2.1 unlocked for tmobile with a gevey sim. im not sure if my gevey sim will be able to unlock the newest baseband if i do a normal restore & just jailbreak. does anyone know if it will work on the newest baseband? i have an att sim card that i can use to activate the phone if needed

The application does not work for me and my ipad 2 is in the infinite recovery loop and I cant kick it out of the recovery loop

None of these CFWs will work on the iPad 2.

Restore to a stock iOS 5.0.1 and jailbreak using Greenpois0n Absinthe. (Windows version will be out soon)

I can't update to ios 5.0.1 my computer glitches and it does not install... That is why I was hoping someone would make and upload a custom ios with the ipad 2 5.0.1 jailbreak

There's no such thing as an iPad 2 iOS 5.0.1 CFW yet, because it can't be put in pwned DFU mode.

Make sure you're using the latest version of iTunes, or try using a different computer to upgrade.

Got a question. Just trying to make things clear before i go for the ios 5.0.1. My iphone 3gs is on baseband 05.15.04 and running at 4.2.1 jailbroken ofcourse. Can i use this custom ipsw standard version then?

You should download Redsn0w and make your own CFW.

The CFWs in this topic are old and lack the launchctl fix, the iBooks SandBox fix, and who knows what else. Making your own takes a few minutes, but will save you a lot of trouble.

I see. But uh robo, honestly im lost at what i should do. So i make my own cfw, then what? I watched, searched and read on youtube and other guides but im still lost whether i can go update my ios and just jailbreak it as i used to do. But i know the baseband is an issue - 05.15.04, my current baseband. Mind shedding some light for me please robo

I need some help I already had a 'stitched' custom firmware for my old iPT4, now I have a new iPT4 but i cant restore using the same 'stitched' custom firmware.
Im always stuck at the black screen, i cant get past it, if i do I get to the place where it has all the white text and then it freezes there.
What should I do?

BTW im on 4.2.1 and im trying to update to 5.0.1

Hey guys, questions and concerns..

i just got my first iphone from ebay a few days ago, its an iphone4 with iOS 5.1 from ATT and will be used with a Straight Talk unlimited plan.

Been reading aboutjailbraking it since then and decided to do a downgrade to 5.0.1 and came across this great site.

I have no backup sh files since i just got the phone. I downloaded the "DOWNLOAD IPHONE4 (GSM)" along with the "iReb"

Now, the questions and concerns before performing the task:

1. Is it really this simple to downgrade and JB at the same time? any drawbacks? side effects?
2. Do i need to do any backup from the current 5.1?
3. I will be getting the phone unlocked from ATT in about week, is it ok to downgrade now and be able to unlock later?

I ran TinyUmbrella and saved SHSH file. Once requesting SHSH from Cydia and a second time without it.

And Got:
One shsh file 8KB in size,
A .cache folder with lib-win file 1500 KB
A .known_devices folder with no files in it.

sounds about right?

That's right. If the only SHSH file you got was for iOS 5.1 (Named #############-iphone3,1-5.1.shsh), then you won't be able to downgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

You can still perform a tethered jailbreak on iOS 5.1 using the latest Redsn0w.

I rather not use a tethered jb, im not familiar with iphone and dont know if it requires rebooting, like some of my androids do. If it does i would be SOL while on the road.
more things i have done..

Used iFaith along with shsh 4.3.3 obtained via TinyUmbrella cydia and created an IPSW [iFaith_iPhone_4-4.3.3 (8J2)_signed]

Is this a better option than the "iPhone (GSM)" 5.0.1 on this thread?

Edit:
With TinyUmbrella having Cydia enabled i got files
From: iphone3,1-4.0.1.shsh
TO: iphone3,1-4.3.3.shsh

With TinyUmbrella having Cydia dissabled
iphone3,1-5.1.shsh

I used the 4.3.3 to create the ipsw via iFaith.
