It seems like we are not too far off now from a public release of an untethered jailbreak for both iPhone 4S and iPad 2. Pod2g, who is the genius behind this iOS 5 exploit for both A4 and A5 devices, has posted a video on his blog which shows jailbroken iPhone 4S running Cydia, on iOS 5.0.1, fully untethered.

How can I save iPad 2 shsh if I've never been jailbroken? I would like to be able to restore to ios5.0.1 if the first jailbreak goes wrong like it did with my iPhone.

You don't need to be jailbroken to save a SHSH. Just use Tiny Umbrella or iFaith. Also if this comes out before iOS 5.1 does then you wouldn't need the SHSH blob of anything goes wrong as Apple would still be signing 5.0.1.

You download TinyUmbrella and just follow a simple tutorial on how to save shsh blobs. You can save shsh blobs without jailbreak, it's just that you are unable to mesh it for a custom ipsw for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 atm.

Wait I have my iPad 2 jailbroken on 4.3.3.....both tiny umbrella and cydia say I have saved shsh blobs for 5.0.1. Shouldnt I be able to install 5.0.1 even if they push 5.1 before the JB?

I've never actually been on 5.0.1 so didn't know if that would affect it. Just making sure.

I have an iPad 2 3G running 5.0.1. I wanted to save the SHSH blobs using TinyUmbrella, but i get this message every time I click on Save SHSH : " CYDIA DOES NOT HAVE YOUR SHSH FOR iPad23G 5.0.1 (9A405) THERE IS NO WAY FOR YOU TO GET THEM. SORRY. YOU ARE JUST TOO LATE"
Also when i click on Show Saved SHSH, it doesn't show anything. What should I do?

Do you have "Save with Cydia" Clicked in Settings on Tiny Umbrella? Another thing is you need the Latest version of Tiny Umbrella. Also you could try iFaith.

No I turned it off. I'm using the latest version of Tiny Umbrella, just downloaded it now. When I used TinyUmbrella it says that 12 files are saved at first, but when i checked there still wasn't any saved SHSH.

And I thought iFaith didn't support the 4S and iPad 2

Just checked out tiny umbrella's main site and it's only got support for the 5.0.1 betas shsh blobs.

No, it now supports 5.1 betas. It supports 5.0.1. All you have to do is go into advanced and uncheck the boxes that relate to cydia (3 I think). Then it will save your blobs. Hopefully the JB will be released with enough time to update ifaith with A5 support, because AFAIK, shsh blobs are useless without the APT ticket on 5.0+.

@forthebirds @Betabot: Watch out! I think you're mixing things up a bit! If you're really talking about iPad2 then the answer is: No, even if you have your SHSHs for 5.0.1 saved, you can't update to 5.0.1 or revert to it on an iPhone4s or iPad2 after Apple stopped signing it! People save them SHSHs in hope of some future bootrom exploit that will enable you to make good use of these. But ATM they are pretty much useless for 4s and iPad2 (the A5 devices), that's why Planetbeing and Pod2g recommended to update to 5.0.1 as long as it's officially possible. Same missing bootrom exploit prevents the use of iFaith on these as well...

And @mbafa3: If your Tiny says: Cydia does not have... then it's requesting them from Cydia (obviously). Try once again to untick the option in the advanced tab (maybe start Tiny in Admin mode).

Yeah all the boxes were unchecked. Maybe its because i had itunes running in the background, closed it and started Tiny in Admin mode. seemed to do the trick. thanks

yay pod2g posted a pic of untethered iPad 2 also today running 5.0.1! I hope they release it tonight or tomorrow its been a couple of days now! and he said a couple? So crossing fingers!
