is there any other way to speed things up now?
since we've figured out launchdaemons, we should be trying to find some other ways
(such as overclock, optimization of apps, etc)

hmmm i tried doing it... Doesn't seem any faster.. =(
but thanks anyway, i'm sure deleting so much .lproj will surely increase the memory by at least abit though...

Hiiii i have been trying other ideas only few hav this kinda effect deleting other languages support files dint speedup or released memory as binary is ones that load into memory preferred language is only one loaded into memory so it doesnt work.. i removed search bundles to reduce searchd load caz spotbright earlier versions dint read the preference settings that reduced its load from 3mb to 1mb and others like deleting some internal dylib but nothin has speedup the iphone this much so still looking u got any ideas wud luv to try..

So is that it? Have all the removable daemons been found? Does that mean, aside from testing/bug searching, experiment 1 is over?

I found the reason for my memory not updating.
It was cyntact. When I enable Cyntact my Springboard takes about 26mb, without it, it goes down to around 14mb.
I even reenabled winterboard and I'm sitting at 45mb free, but when I load the address book I go down to 35 or so for a while. Still better than my average 25 before.

That's assuming that all of the daemons have been tested and confirmed. I'm sure a few more can be removed in certain cirumstances, ie, someone may not have an app that requires the daemon, while another might need the daemon to use another app.

This is a great thread.

Thanks fo the info guys.

My sprinboard with winterboard is rocking 51MB free right now.

I'm using the following mobile substrate plugins.
Cyntact
Winterboard
Lock Info
Cydelete
Supreme Preferences
Spotbright
Mquickdo
and some other apps.

Just made the tweaks found on this thread.

Keep it up.

this are the ones i have removed. my device is an iPod Touch 2G, using iPhone OS 3.0.

com.apple.Dump*
com.apple.Report*
com.apple.aslmanager
com.apple.syslogd
com.apple.powerlog
com.apple.stackshot.server
com.apple.tcpdump.server
com.apple.AddressBook
com.apple.accessoryd [X]
com.apple.apsd
com.apple.dataaccess.dataaccessd [X]
com.apple.datamigrator
com.apple.racoon
com.apple.MobileInternetSharing

Seems to be working ok so far. i'll be testing for a couple of days to see what's missing. I don't use VPN, dock accessories, nor any iphone related stuff. boots faster, and will check battery life. i'll post back in a few days.

EDIT: Removing dataaccessd breaks Mail functionality with Exchange account emails.
EDIT2: Removing accessoryd disables iTunes access to the iPod Touch 2G.

I just tried to download stuff off the app store and I think one of the deleted daemons caused this. Any idea on which daemon mentioned safe did this? I've tried replacing the majority of them.

Have you checked the available memory through sbsettings, memtool or some other app that tells you the free memory? You might not be able to notice if it SEEMS faster, but you can tell if you freed up memory by using one of those apps. If the numbers don't change, try rebooting, that's the only way I got sbsettings to show the mb I freed up.

I haven't really seen anything about it, but is there a way to prevent the mail app from constantly running in the background? That would save some memory, right? I'm not sure if any of the things in the first post take care of this or if there's already a way to do that.

EDIT: Would anything in /private/var/preferences/SystemConfiguration save some memory? There's a file called OSThermalStatus.plist in there... anyone wanna test it out?

EDIT2: How about /private/var/root/Library/Preferences ? In the first post there was a .plist with iqagent and one with stackshot, and they can also be found in this folder. Think these can also be gotten rid of to save some memory? Maybe they're connected? (I ended up deleting these too anyway, and it seems as though there's a slight increase in memory, although there's not enough of a change for me to say it's 100% due to them being deleted)

Can someone try deleting the files I posted above (OSThermalStatus.plist, iqagent.plit, stackshot.plist... look at the edits above for their locations) to see if getting rid of them increases available ram? I already deleted all three (after backing them up, of course) and my iPhone has been runnig fine for the past hour or two without them. I noticed maybe a 2 or 3mb increase in free ram, up to 4 mb more when I added a wb theme. Can someone please confirm this? I don't want it to just be my imagination! lol

Hmm i don't know if its related to this but I recently decided to restore the addressbook and accsor(whatever) plists but afterwards my iphone completely would not communicate with me. I tried to open an app but it would just not respond so I decided to reboot but then it just stuck on the apple logo. it was the most homo restore ever. so random. just sharing a problem in case anyone else gets one like.

Basically, I go into App store, no matter what I try to dl, the button just goes gray. If I hit the home button, I see a white icon with an installing bar staying gray forever until I reboot it disappears. I can't log out of my App acc on the iTouch either.

Nah, I think the daemons aren't the problem after all. I switched the backup last night and the problem persists. My second guess for the problem is Supreme Preferences after I uninstalled it. It has issues with "Winterboard Settings".

NO! I had to restore last time I did that to clear Supreme preferences stuff! It was terrible, I wouldn't try that until you know there's no other way to undo the problem.

On Topic: Can anyone confirm if the plists I mentioned earlier changed anything?

Every checked the springboard.plist in same directory?
Maybe check to what the "ThrotleInterval" integer does? I'm not brave even to mess with it!

I am hoping this is the post u were mentioning leave a link next time easier to find than searching thru old posts.

DO NOT DELETE OSThermalStatus as the name sounds i think its desinged to shut off iphone to preserve its hardware if it overheads careful some demons are good guys.

That's what I was thinking too, but I deleted it anyway. I accidentally left my phone outside under the sun the next day (totally by chance) as I played basketball, and when I looked at it, it had the "iPhone temperature" warning and disabled use of the phone. So I don't think the OSThermalStatus.plist exactly controls the function, maybe it allows for it to happen more quickly or something? I did notice a few more mb of free ram on average after deleting it, though. I guess if you guys wanna take the chance, it can be looked at?
