It makes sense that the other languages are still parsed when the app loads. The phone still has to read the binary to select the lang package. If there are no other packages to select from, it doesnt have to read thro them all to find the one it needs. This may be why you would see a bigger increase with the apps that have many packages compared to the ones with few packages

Hiii done with smcrack's idea of clearing all other language packages no change in the free memory level or cpu load although i ended up freeing 10 mb of diskspace ;) in root partition. weirdly enf springboard's using a bit more memory :( donno think its related thou.

PS. anyone trying this be very careful with your backups make it in var/mobile/ folder and not in root partition else you will get low disk space error. :)

about my crap:
iPhone 3G 8GB, Jailbroken, SBsettings on board (added rotation toggle, keep awake), about 5GB of music files, approx. 1GB apps, 5icon dock, reflective dock, WinterBoard's wallpaper under icons, lock clock and system fonts added manually

imo - good start (disabling services), but the sys speed increase ? hmm.... I disabled those Daemons and to be honest I see no significant difference during iPhone useage; maybe ill try to play more with ma device then tell you bit more too, but now i dont' think it does an acceleration to da iPhone 3G opearating system.

I agree - device boot time is definately shorter

Hiiii thaaanks for the stats, its not a magic wand :meditate: lol.. nyways can u tell me how much memory is available before and after ??? doing these changes ? chk to see any background services are still running caz apps like ipod safari and mail take upto 30mb each so if they are runnin in background u cant really tell or notice any perfomance difference. and can u tell me which firmware are you on ?

...on the other side iPhones and iPods Touch are with built in flash memory, so i would say such things like read/write time on flash drive (similar to ordinary mechanical HDD on your computer) haven't any meaning here.
Ok, here might be a problem with capacity, ram_disk, temporary filez etc. but read/write operations theoreticaly are much faster i.e. http://www.tomshardw...51207_20_0.html (there's a lot more of it)

Regarding to your question about freeing memory after disabling services (daemons) - well, hard to say how is it, even harder it's to measure it :icon_hang:

actally i haven't observed much more free ram on my device

I just noticed that one of the plists disables playing music through the dock connector. I haven't taken the time to figure out which one though. :?

Hey chill ;) i was only asking abt the FW caz u so systematically mentioned everything else n forgot abt it. and since i did these changes to 3.0 so wantd to knw if we are on same page here.

Now, here u are answering ur own question. no ones talking abt hdds here yuck :icon_butt:. whr did u get that idea. unless u are confused abt the diskspace and ram they are both different :giggle: 8gb iphn doesnt mean 8gb of ram :wtf:!

Here we r trying to reduce the iphone to bare minimum processes ones that are only required / ones we want to run. read earlier posts the purpost of this thread is to have an app similar to swapmode. if all our ideas work.

The only two imp perfomance points are free available ram and processor load so by reducing the process runnin (again talking abt the processor / cpu load not hdd r/w's :razz: nor that :omg:link u keep changing)

launchdeamons are like system services each with a specific task like logging crashdump etc etc so removing these would result in one less process run. most of them are idle but they are around 57 of them runnin so carefully removing some shd have some impact or reduce some cpuload or free some ram.. u said bootup is faster isnt tht enf for u.

ur first post was a lot easy to understand second one was difficult to make sense or was weiring off topic and into the realm of confused so put this up this to help u understand or solve any confusion. hope this helps u understand :stroke:

first, it only crashed when i went into podcast section where i had 1 podcast
then i added a video podcast and then it just crashes whenever i open it
i think com.apple.graphicservices.sample.plist might have something to do with the album arts...
anyone have the backup? or anyone have this problem too?

I just Deleted the ones you were sure what they do:

- Accessoryd
- DumpPanic
- DumpBasebandCrash
- ReportCrash.*
- syslogd
- racoon

and I left:
- AddressBook
- graphicsservices.sample (that someone thinked related to artworks in iPod or something like that)
- stackshot.server
- tcpdump.server

I also deleted fairplayd because i haven't any DRMed music... i tried to play a couple of songs in the ipod app and it seems to work fine... I'll let you know if I'll find any problems with it... EDIT: I'm an IDIOT, do not delete it... it's used for all of your legit AppStore apps... :-/

hii pls keep backups before doing anythin else u might screwup ur iphone easiest way to do this is just right-click on the folder in winscp select duplicate in path is ~\*.* to ~\*.old its quite easy.

mike_rotch put up a backup of the file download it and set its permission to 644 hope this fixes things. dont forget to thank mike_rotch.

think u can delete the addressbook deamon too. i am fine w/o it i use sync services too still everythings working fine.

i use cyntact and notices the contacts tab loads faster now can anyone confirm this ?

looking in AddressBook... I think it's related in importing contacts from Sim and stuff like that because in his MachServices there's a com.apple.addressbook.migrationdaemon

yaa abt the powerlog i did the same too, itunesstored gets activated everytime we download anythin from appstore and goes away once i connect with itunes on my pc think it helps in copying of the downloaded apps from the iphone to pc.
