Can I Continue to Sync 2 iPhones to the Same Backup?

I recently bought a 3G. I still have my 2G and I am still using it because its running 2.2.1 and EVERYthing works great so until I get everything working on my 3G on 3.0 I prefer to continue using the 2G BUT I want to go back and forth between the two and test certain apps etc.

So I want to use both phones and have the exact same info on both. It seems easy enough but I read some where that when I set up my 3G if I backup using the info from my 2G then I can no longer just plug in my 2G and continue to sync it as I always do. Anyone know if this is possible or not?
