Then SSH It to:
/User/(here)
Type in MobileTerminal:
su
then your password (alpine)
then:
dpkg -i /User/Cydia.deb
That should install Cydia, erasing any major problems you have been having. If all else fails, DFU and Restore

To SSH: download either PhoneView(Shareware) or Cyberduck (freeware)mate im with u in some points but not others idiots guide required
Install In Cydia:
OpenSSH and SBSettings (If not installed already)
SBSettings is so you can turn on SSH in the menu. :hooray:
Reboot after installing those, and then:
For CyberDuck:
Open up CyberDuck, click on the Bonjour Tab and your device should be there, if it isn't reboot your iPod/iPhone and reopen Cyberduck. Once it is there, double click it and type in the following:

Then it will connect, then follow the above instructions
For PhoneView:
Open PhoneView and attach your iPhone/iPod Touch through USB. It will automatically open PhoneView. Go to Preferences and check Show Entire Disk (Advanced Disk Mode)
Then sync it to the specified spot explain above
Download Terminal in cydia and type in the commands

I will guess no as using redsn0w on 2.1.1 on an already jailbroken iPod reinstalled Cydia and reset download history/install packages.does this keep all cydia downloads intact?

I couldnt get the above files to work on my iphone 3g (3.0) so I "fixed" the prob by manually deleting /var/cache/apt/pkgcache.bin and srcpkgcache.bin (in same directory) or u can move them to another directory in case u want to replace them.
I am new at this so I kinda dunno wat it is that I did but cydia is working fine and all previously installed pkgs appear in installed packages section.

Just want to note that the code that you must enter in mobile terminal is case sensitive.

Thanks, it worked and kept all packages and sources intact.

Thanks for confirming
So yes, this keeps all packages and sources intact and there is no need to reinstall everything you installed through Cydia, just reinstall cydia instead of rejailbreaking
