u can do it that way, it works, but u wont know that name of the song, my way, it will show all of the .m4r files in your ringtones folder, here is my modified file, its for the ipod touch first gen, i need an upload of the the N45AP.plist if you want me to do the same thing for the iphone 2G, just replace the files and you will be golden.

If you upload your n45ap.plist I'll edit the file, so it will do it for you, also.

Do u have .m4r files in you /private/var/stash/ringtones.xxxxx/folder cause u gotta put them there, any song that u ripped can be made into a ringtone, just change the .m4a extenstion to .m4r, and ssh them into the ringtones folder, cause it works.... ive done it to my friends also

Yes they're in my /private/var/stash/Ringtones.xxxxx/ folder. But do I need to make a new folder for it? 'Cus I just transferred them straight into there.
And I just changed the .mp3 extensions to .m4r.

if ur using .mp3, thats the problem, u need to conver them to acc format first, then change the exstention, u can convert any music to acc formate in itunes, and then change the .m4a to .m4r in the file, tis is an apple thing cause they dont have there ringtones reading non-acc formated files

If you like what i say please thank me ^^

OK. Gotcha. So I'll just convert to AAC and THEN change the extensions :)
I'll do that and then post back.
EDIT
Ya. Still don't have them as an option :(
