can some help me out? i am trying to install without the dvd and am stuck. i mounted the disc image, then opened disk utility, then clicked on restore. When I try dragging the Snow Leopard DMG file from the left pane to source, it won't let me. The only thing I can drag into the source is the Macintosh HD....
unmount it and just drag the DMG file to source field and u need a 15GB portion for distination!!
Install MacOSX without a DVD :
This is the method how to install any MacOSX (Leopard or snow leopard) without a DVD. This tweak will save you time and a DVD that can be uesd for something else !! its easy to apply this method.
Needed:
TWO blank partitions ready. One will be for the installer (about 10 GB) and the other will be where you Leopard OSX or Snow Leopard or tiger anything you want and for OSX disk its upto you how much space you need !!
With your disc image mounted, open the Disk Utility application (Applications -> Utilities).
1- Click the Restore tab (see it near the top of the Disk Utility window? Just after First Aid, Erase and RAID…)
2- Drag your DMG file from the list on the left of your Disk Utility window to the "Source" field.
3- Then, drag the icon of the partition you want to put the installer on to the "Destination" field. Again, do this from the left pane of your Disk Utility window. If you try to do this from the desktop (as I kept trying to do) you’re going to drive yourself bonkers.
4- Click the "Erase Destination" check box so that it shows a check.
Click Restore.
Wait until done.
Once the above is complete you now have a bootable OSX Leopard Install partition.
5- All you have to do now is go to System Preferences -> Startup Disk and specify your boot partition to be "Mac OS X Install DVD".
