Tethering still works the same with 5.5. But you no longer have access to the Cellular Data tab. In Networks.

Oh so Cellular Data is tech-speak for tethering. If I am not doing any tethering at all will applying 5.5 to a Jailbroken 3GS running 3.01 lose any OTHER features?

I installed the ATT mobileconfigsys from the link above and I also have MyWi. I had that before I upgraded to 5.5 and it's all still there and working. The only thing I lost was the cellular data field. The tethering field is still there.

If I were you on a 2G I would do the 5.2. My sons on a 2G and I have yet to get mms working as of last night. It's AT&T that's blocking him. And with the 5.2 you can access your APN settings if you need too.

ok I'm seeing a lot of mixed results. So i am on 5.1 and MMS working so far I have only confirmed sending I have not received. I'm on 3.0 3GS I don't want to lose tethering so which is best 5.2 or 5.5?

Strange, I tried to follow the directions on page 2 but when I shift-click the Update button I am not able to change the filetype to ipcc and when I force it by filename I get an error that it can't be done.

I haven't upgraded to itunes 9 yet, could this be the culprit or am I doing something retarded?

I can't see the 5.5 APN settings so I can't say it's better. So beings there are people having issues with tethering on 5.5. I would recomend 5.2. I just may be the exception with tethering.

To do this you need to run this command line first on your PC Or MAC:

You can enable loading ipcc files in windows by typing the following command at the command line:

"%ProgramFiles%\iTunes\iTunes.exe" /setPrefInt carrier-testing 1

Mac - open a terminal and type in..
defaults write com.apple.iTunes carrier-testing -bool TRUE

Ahh yes, I did this but misspelled Pref as Pre so even though it loaded I didn't realize it.

edit: Yay, now I'm getting an 'Iphone cannot be updated'

Time to work on this one.

Installing the mobilecofigsys file from the link I posted above reinstalled tethering on 5.5 on another users 3GS. Give it a try. You need to access the site and do the install of the tethering mobileconfigs file diectly through your iPhone.

Paulie

hers the link again: http://help.benm.at/help.php

don't do the mms one as you already have it working.

That I don't know. But if your on AT&T you really dint need to access it as the only reason was to edit the mms field. But if you swap between Tmobile and AT&T you may want to stay with 5.2.

oh and then "this message could not be sent" with red exclamation next to it

Are you on a 2G? AT&T didn't activate MMS on the 2G.

Go into settings/general/About and see what version of Carrier it list. Maybe your update didn't take effect? After you did the update did you sync with iTunes after? If not do that.
