My situation: have used the custom firmware on 3g no problems. Got a new in the box 3gs today, and before i read ALL the onfo grabbed a custom 3gs file, and tried to do a restore before I really had done anything on it yet.
was 3.0.1. Now stuck in dfu mode, itunes saying i can't do anything unless I restore.

Do I let do a regular restore/update3.1 (apple option) or try to do some other firmware restore. I have tried the firmware from felex brun site, didn't work.

Not really caring about unlock, just jb. Advise?

unplug from cpu and hold down home and power for 30 sec and should reboot into old state if that doesn't work on itunes 8.2 shift click restore and browse to 3.0 custom fw and restore to that you may have to hold down home while you plug to cpu if it is still stuck in dfu

Had a similar problem with a friends 3GS. Just try to do a hard reset and hopefully that works, it did for me.
