Hi, I changed the root password before I ever went online with the phone, but didn't change the mobile password until about a month after I'd been online ( a few hours a day).
Is there anything to worry about?
Could someone have installed spyware or something using just the mobile password?
Thanks

Are you entering "su" as your username?

use the beta mobileterminal available in the 4.X section if you're using 4.0.
Old iDevice: iPhone 3G[S].
Capacity: 16GB.
Color: Black.
Firmware: iOS 4.2.1.
Jailbreak Tools Used: PwnageTool 4.1.3 )> GreenPois0n RC6 )> Redsn0w 0.9.6b6.
Baseband Info: 05.13.04, Unlocked with Ultrasn0w.
[RETIRED: September 28th, 2011.]
Old iDevice: iPhone 4.
Capacity: 16GB.
Color: Black.
Firmware: iOS 4.2.1.
Jailbreak Tools Used: iFaith 1.0. Yes, I'm serious. Only version 1.0 worked with saving my iOS 4.2.1 SHSH blobs without freezing on a certain stage. :/
Baseband Info: 03.10.01, Unlocked with Gevey ULTRA SIM Blue Ed. (Most recent version as of August 2011).
[RETIRED: December 2nd, 2011 | warranty exchange due to faulty home button.]
Current iDevice: iPhone 4.
Capacity: 16GB.
Color: Black.
Firmware: iOS 5.0.1.
Jailbreak Tools Used: iFaith 1.4.1 (for iOS 5.0.1 APTicket, 4.3.5 SHSH Blobs), sn0wbreeze 2.8b11.
Baseband Info: 04.10.01, Unlocked with Gevey ULTRA SIM Blue Ed. (Most recent version as of August 2011).
**Side note: Gevey ULTRA SIM Blue Ed. works BEST with BB 04.10.01. Higher rate of execution, less chance of failure during signal loss.

Same question as duceduc...
Where do I find beta mobileterminal. I've tried both this forum and I have xsellize repo in cydia yet still can't find it.
I've been looking for some kind of an answer to mobileterminal crashing to SB on OS4 for a while now.
knowing about beta mobileterminal is kinda like a bad tease now because I now know something exists yet I can't seem to find it.
Aaaargh

I used this beta mobile terminal. If you have problem as far as the missing mobile terminal icon after you install, try installing using the autoinstall method.

Install via ssh by going to
var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall & reboot twice

How the fu'k do i change my password if I cant use terminal(I'm on 3.1.2 and it crashes!)
There are two relatively easy ways:
(1) Get the "unofficial" MobileTerminal
As you observed, the official MobileTerminal crashes upon opening when using a newer OS. There is an unofficial version of MobileTerminal that works, and the easiest way to get it is… wait for it… via xSellize's (free) repository.
That's actually how I ended up on this forum for the first time, some ten minutes ago. Anywho, inside Cydia click on Manage -> Sources -> Edit -> Add, and then manually type in this address: http://cydia.xsellize.com
Once you have the xSellize repo added, go ahead and do a search for MobileTerminal and you'll see two other versions. Choose the one that's appropriate for you (and if it doesn't work, uninstall and try the other). Then just follow the above guide like you would for a normal MobileTerminal password change.
(2) Use SSH
You can also do it remotely via SSH, which does not require adding the xSellize repository. There are dozens of guides via Google how to do this. Personally, if your only interest is getting files over and you own a Mac, I'd recommend using the above MobileTerminal to change your password and then just installing NetaTalk as well as the "Net Talk Toggle" for SBSettings.

I used the v426 version with iFunbox (Install via ssh by going to var/root/Media/Cydia/AutoInstall & reboot twice), and it worked for me to change the password.
Also, I found that this article from RedmondPie mentioned changing the root password for mobile, too, so not sure if it's necessary, but I changed it anyhow.

Have you also used iFunbox? If so, as a precaution it can change your password automatically. Go to iFunbox settings for the password it changed to.
