What is "langpack"?
Langpack is a simple script that I was given by shmi117 to delete unused Language packs on iDevices. Works on iPhone 4 also.

Will this damage my iDevice?
I have not yet heard anything about "langpack" damaging anybody's iDevice. The only thing that can go wrong, to the best of my knowledge, is if you delete a language that you use. I consider langpack to be pretty "idiot proof" considering the fact that it gives you multiple opportunities to terminate the process in Mobile Terminal before confirming deletion.

How can I benefit from deleting unused languages?
Good question. Deleting unused languages can not only create more free space but make your iDevice a lot smoother as well. When I ran langpack in my iPhone 3G, I noticed a much smoother performing device. (I also deleted useless daemons; as many as I could)

My advise is to delete as many LaunchDaemons as possible without crippling (harming) your iDevice.
A combination of deleting useless LaunchDaemons and Languages will give you the best results. (Was an experiment on IOS 3.x)

Change permissions to 0755 and you can rename the file say whatever you want. Just be sure to type it in the Terminal as whatever you named it with ./ in front of it.

I change mine to "Delete" (no quotes)

Copy to /var/mobile/

Open Mobile Terminal on your iDevice

Type: su
Press: return

Type in password: alpine (alpine is default if you haven't changed it)
Press: return

Type: ./Delete (or whatever you renamed the file to, mine is called Delete)
Press: return

Now just follow the instructions that will appear in Mobile Terminal

NOTE: IF YOU USE EMOJI ICONS, DO NOT DELETE JAPANESE LANGUAGE!!!!!!

to delete languages quickly, and leave the english and emoji icons, i just do this:

use WinSCP to navigate to the main folder of your phone: "/"
open up the terminal and type this:

for file in `find . -type d -name "*.lproj" -not -iname "en*.lproj" -not -iname "ja*.lproj" -exec echo {} ; | sed -e 's/.///'`; do rm -vr ./$file ; done

then wait for it to do its magic and i'm done (:

Langpack will let you choose which languages you want to delete.

I would suggest running the script twice. Run it once, then reboot and run it again. I thought I got them all but it found a few more. Ran it a third time and all are gone that I want. Could be I hit N instead of Y on those but who knows!

Didnt even think of that. I would recommend then for the users of the langpack method, when ask if you want to delete the langpack file when it is done removing languagepacks, DONT. Keep it and you can run it from time to time.

I know that you can run it more than once but keeping the langpack package in /var/mobile/ is a good idea to access the script again quickly after installing new apps.

I've gotten a code that moves all your fonts off your root partition if anybody wants that one too...
It frees over 100MB off of it...

So I just gave langpack a shot and its an awesome script, I'll let everyone know how it worked out for me.

EDIT: It seemed like it rebooted faster, don't really notice any apps opening faster or anything, but definitely booted up faster.

That's the same (if not updated) version of the langpack script everybody is running

Works great, but it only freed up 5 MB for me. Is that right? I thought language packs were bigger than that.

Dont use that command. Use the langpack script. Works great. Oh and 2for3, thanks for the tutorial, even though I didnt need it lol.
