What is SSH?

SSH is a secure way of transferring information (including files) between computers on a network. SFTP is a secure way of transferring files which, despite the name, has little in common with FTP.

Basically, i'll be posting my reply based on Windows System and not MAC, cause i don't own one. The MAC Equivalent is Cyberduck or Fugu.

What is WinSCP?

WinSCP (Windows Secure copy) is an open source SFTP and FTP client for Microsoft Windows. Its main function is secure file transfer between a local and a remote computer. Beyond this, WinSCP offers basic file manager functionality. For secure transfers, it uses Secure Shell (SSH) and supports the legacy SCP protocol in addition to SFTP.

Basically, the interface is like windows explorer whereby on the left panel, it's the directories you have on the iPhone, on the right are the files available in the parent/sub directories. Looks something like the picture below





How do you do a login to your iPhone with WinSCP

• Have WinSCP installed
  
• Make sure you have OpenSSH installed from Cydia
  
• On Wifi, and let your iPhone connect to your house's Wifi Connection
  
• You will be able to trace out the Ip that your iPhone is on, it looks something like this below

• Once done, open winSCP, you will have a login screen like the one u see below

• Key in the phone's ip into the "Host Name" Field
  
• Port No remains as 22
  
• User name is root ... password is alpine
  
• Once done, click login and give it a while ... once it login successfully, you should see something like the FIRST picture i've posted up.

Anyone have a list /walkthrough of all the different folders

Basicalyl i find it confusing remebering where everything is, from pictures, applications, other various data.

Is there a list, just a text file even, that either goes through important stuff or goes through all the folders and says what's in it.

I could not get WinSCP to work without first installing Open SSL using Installer. I believe it also installs UNIX Subsystem at the same time. I also think that one needs a MobileSubstrate installed. I used PseudoSubstrate also in Installer.

hey i first its work my win scp is open.but then i try next day its not oprn 4 protocol sftp said connection refused..and 4 protocol ftp said connection faild..why ??some time its work and some time not???

I have my laptop wired to my router and ofcourse iphone is on wifi. My laptop doesnt have wifi. Will it work??

For install a .deb file using winscp :

. Connect Winscp to your phone (following this tuto)

. Hit the CTRL + T (or in command menu)

. write in the black part :

dpkg is the apt software who will check dep
the -i is for install option

You can put multiple .deb file like this :

how do you config your wireless? my phone picked up the router but there is no reading on DHCP
