Before using these custom ipsw files made with pawnage tool 4.01 you should know this that these custom ipsw files will only work with devices that haven't used spirit jailbreak method. and if u have used spirit then use the redsn0w 0.9.5.b5. jailbreak method. the redsn0w works with 3G and ipod 2G. and then use cydia to download and use Ultrasn0w to unlock your iPhone. how to use redsn0w read more here : http://mahmood1.com/...jailbreak_iOS_4
for every iDevice i have made 4 different kinds of custom ipsw iOS 4 files. they all have 1GB of root patron size and for 3G all the functions are enabled. types of ipsw files made for iPhone 3GS and 3G are :
1. ACTIVATED with baseband update
2. ACTIVATED with NO baseband update
3. UN-ACTIVATED NO baseband UPDATE
4. UN-ACTIVATED with baseband UPDATE


its your choice to choose to update basbeand or not because if you update the basbeand then you can always UNLOCK your iPhone using Ultrasn0w in cydia.even if the basbeand gets updated to the latest you can use ultrasn0w to unlock the newest baseband in IOS 4 how to do that : http://mahmood1.com/...k.php#ultrasn0w

READ carefully again this before upgrading:
iPhone 3GS
Summary: Currently, PwnageTool only works on previously jailbroken 3GS devices with the old bootrom.
• If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3GS with the OLD BOOTROM and you DID NOT use Spirit to jailbreak then you can create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore with your jailbroken recovery mode.
• If you have an iPhone 3GS with the NEW BOOTROM this is NOT supported by PwnageTool 4.0
iPhone 3G
• If you have a Jailbroken iPhone 3G at 3.1.2 (but not jailbroken with Spirit) then you should create the ipsw with PwnageTool 4.0 and restore from recovery mode or DFU mode.
• If you have an out of the box iPhone 3G you should restore using a PwnageTool 4.0 ipsw using DFU mode.
• If you have a Jailbroken 3.1.3 iPhone 3G it is very possible that this can fail from recovery mode, if this failure happens you will need to restore using DFU mode.
• As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on iPhone 3G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.
IMPORTANT! Whenever you need to enter DFU mode, you will need to do so using PwnageTool.
iPod touch 2G
• If you have an iPod touch 2G (non-MC model) that is jailbroken (but not with Spirit) then you can restore using recovery mode.
• As an alternative to PwnageTool, you can use redsn0w on non-MC iPod Touch 2G (on both Windows and Mac) as mentioned in our last post.
Baseband Unlock
• As you probably know by now, ultrasn0w has been updated to cover all basebands from 04.26.08 onward.

Types of ipsw files made with pwange tool 4.01 are :

1. iPhone 3GS ACTIVATED and 1GB root patron and baseband update enabled
2. iPhone 3GS ACTIVATED and 1GB root patron and NO baseband update
3. iPhone 3GS UN-ACTIVATED and 1GB root patron and NO baseband update
4. iPhone 3GS UN-ACTIVATED and 1GB root patron and baseband update ENABLED
5. iPhone 3G ACTIVATED all functions (multitasking, wallpaper, battery %) and 1GB root patron NO UPDATE to baseband
6. iPhone 3G ACTIVATED all functions (multitasking, wallpaper, battery %) and 1GB root patron and baseband update ENABLED
7. iPhone 3G UN-ACTIVATED all functions (multitasking, wallpaper, battery %) and 1GB root patron and NO baseband update
8. iPhone 3G UN-ACTIVATED all functions (multitasking, wallpaper, battery %) and 1GB root patron and baseband update ENABLED

SOLUTIONS : if u get error 13 then use Mac OSX to upgrade to OS 4.0. u can also use vmware workstation 7 to install

People who are getting errors how to solve it :
1. if u get errors then first check that the host file contains the cydia server. C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts (Windows) or /etc/hosts (Mac OS X) and add the following entry to the bottom of the file : 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com
2. download the OS 3.1.2 from here : http://appldnld.appl...11_Restore.ipsw
3. retsore to this OS 3.1.2 and if u get error 1015 use iRecovery to get out of this how to do this serach google for iRecovery : execute the following commands
4. setenv auto-boot true
5. saveenv
6. reboot
7. now use redsn0w 9.2.3 and jailbreak OS 3.1.2
8. and then upgrade to iOS 4 CUSTOM ipsw
9. if you get error that device is not resgisterd as devloper then register your device

grrr finally got a working osx in vmware but its all in Russian. I believe I have iTunes 9.2 installed but and it sees my ipod touch2g but how do I 4.0 ipsw installed? I tried shift and restore but that doesnt work. Iv never used a mac, please help...

just download the ipsw again and use because this error occurs if the file is corrupted download directly from vmware or first in winows and then transfer to mac osx

made a custom firmware from iOS 4 for 3GS and restored now iOS 4 is jailbroken testing cydia and other apps and will upload it if its worth testing !!

Jailbreak iOS 4 FINAL Build 8A293 GM CUSTOM ipsw with iTunes 9.2 beta (ONLY for iPhone 3GS ) :

This method is tested on a iPhone 3GS 4.0 beta 4 , i didn't need to downgrade to 3.1.2 in order to do a upgrade back to a custom iOS 4. i had jailbroken beta 4 and then jailbroken iOS 4 FINAL build. I used pwangetool and placed the iOS 4 FINAL bundel and then made a CUSTOM iOS 4 ipsw. MY baseband has remained the same as it was in beta 4 so baseband didn't change BUT let me be clare test this if you have an offical carrier SIM card and u don't need UNLOCK ! if u need unlock then don't come near this !!! Please don't put the links on any other website and if u want that then just use the zip folder which contains the text file and the download link. a direct link on a site will be deleted by rapidshare if u want to share just share the zip folder which contains the text file to links don't share the links directly on a forum or website.


Download Files you need ( all included with this folder ) :
1. iTunes 9.2 beta 2 (ONLY for Mac) install it first
2. Custom iOS 4.0 ipsw file
3. installd patch
4. iRecovery for Mac and Windows
5. install0us 2.0.4
6. redsn0w 9.2.3 (may be needed)
7. pwangtool if u want to make your own custom ipsw using the iPhone2,1_4.0_8A293.bundle

To begin :

1. connect iPhone to itunes
2. BACKUP (always beore an upgrade !!)
3. hit SHIFT keyboard button + RESTORE option in itunes and Browse to the downloaded iPhone 3GS iOS 4.0 CUSTOM ipsw file and start restoring
4. after jailbreaking Open CYDIA add this repo to cydia after jailbreak : http://cydia.xsellize.com and also this http://cydia.hackulo.us
5. now restart cydia upgrade and then restart back and search for OpenSSH and install it and also search for sbsettings and install it when done reboot
6. now use WinSCP or terminal to connect to iphone using SSH the username is : root and password is : alpine
7. connect iphone with WinSCP or terminal and go to usr/libexec and there rename the installd and copy the patched installd to usr/libexec and check if the persmission is 0755 if not set it to 0755.
8. REBOOT !!!!!
9. ALWAYS change SSH password : when done connecting disconnect and change the password of SSH (for security measures)
10. connect through SSH : install install0us 2.0.4 just copy the deb file to iphone using winscp and install using this command : dpkg -i installous.deb
11. open CYDIA and install these apps Installous v2.5.2 (install from xsellize) and XIPA (install from cydia)
12. Now you can install apps from apptrackr to iphone !!

steps 1 to 12 is what i have done to get a stable installous version !!Never install Appsync or installd files from cydia itself because they are for OS 3.1.2 andt iOS 4 the patched installd have been included in the folder so just replacing that is enough

NO ! don't use blackra1n because then u can't upgrade to custom iOS 4. exploit that redsn0w 9.2.3 uses is needed to have a successful iOS 4 jailbreak.
