It doesn't seem possible to overwrite the Helvetica.ttf and HelveticaBold.ttf fonts in iOS4. Why? Cuz Apple is now putting those fonts inside a TTC (TrueType Container) file instead of having them as individual files. Ugh! Anyone know how to create a new TTC file with the Droid font replacements I'd rather have?

Replace normal. already test:

Down font in here
And embed to iPhone the path: System/Library/Font/Cache/

You can replace the MarkerFeltThin.ttf and LockClock.ttf fonts, but not Helvetica.ttf and HelveticaBold.ttf.

I figured it out. You must use the TTSDK collection of utilities from Microsoft (including breakttc.exe and makettc.exe) to modify the Helvetica.ttc file.

Here's Calibri for 4.0. Doesn't work with FontSwap as it only finds ttf. Not ttc.

I finally figured it out and I made a package for Comfortaa.

Heres the download:

Just ssh to System/Library/Fonts/Cache and overwrite the file there. It seems to work everywhere the original font was.

PS. make sure to make a backup of the original.

If you want to know how I did it, ask.

You need 4 things:
BREAKTTC.EXE
MAKETTC.EXE
the Helvetica.ttc font included in iOS4
the .ttf fonts for the font you want to use (both plain and bold)

drag Helvetica.ttc onto BREAKTTC.EXE to split it into its parts. Then delete PART00.TTF and PART01.TTF. Rename the plain font to PART00.TTF and the bold to PART02.TTF. Then open a command prompt to the location of the files and type in MAKETTC Helvetica.ttc FONT00.TTF FONT01.TTF ...etc until FONT08.TTC

Then take the created file and move it to System/Library/Fonts
Overwrite the file and then reboot and you should have a new system font.

I think the parts of the TTC container file are named FONT00, 01, 02...08 and not PART00...08. Just a minor clarification.

Its really not. i have tried it. i would fix myself as i have the calibri from 3.0 that has the fixed alignment issues but the BreakTTC does not work on my version of windows.

Font is VAG Rounded (http://new.myfonts.c...be/vag-rounded/) and it really looks awesome on iPhone. It also contains Italic fonts (HelveticaOblique.ttf and HelveticaBoldOblique.ttf), can those also be added via this method?

Hi. I changed also Helvetica.ttf and HelveticaBold.ttf in iOS4. But I'm having trouble with the accents ("í", for example) in the DroidSans font. Anyone could post the original Helvetica font of the iOS4? I didn't backup it, and now I want to go back to Helvetica. Only the two files in TTF format. Thank you very much.
