Ok, try disabling CyDelete, and/or MultiIconMover. Those might screw with it.

EDIT: CONGRATS ON THE 1000th POST!!

MultiIconMover isn't it, cause I installed that after I got this problem.

OMFG. I was waiting til I got 1000th and I forgot. -.-
Just disabled the CyDelete dylib via SBSettings. No difference.

Worked in default 5x4 mode automatically, but after switching to 5x5 like I prefer and hitting "Apply Changes & Respring" it was back to default.

The solution for this is to change it to the option you want to use and hit apply (resprings itself). Then go back in and turn off "enable iconoclasm" (resprings itself). Then go back in and turn it back on (resprings itself), and it should work.

Never had any springboard crashing issues, so this trick is probably no help for those. 32GB 3GS oldbootrom iOS4.0 via PwnageTool 4.01. My mobile substrate addons include:
Activator, Backgrounder, DisplayStack, FiveIconDock, IconSupport, IntelliStatusIconsV..., LibWeather, LockInfo, LockInfoMail, LockInfoPhone, MyWi, PreferenceLoader, Unrestrictor3G-itunes, Unrestrictor3G, Winterboard, biteSBarClient, biteSMSsb, libhide, libstatusbar, removerecents. (sweet jesus that's a lot).

EDIT: Just noticed that in addition to mostly scattering my icons about, it also changed some of the icons I had in my one folder and renamed it to a default name. Good news is I was able to move icons in and out and rename just fine, so everything seems to be in working order. Sucks for those with tons of folders and tons of folder-ed icons, though.

I'm getting the same problem, but opening folders doesnt actually crash my SpringBoard, it just shows my wallpaper and statusbar and i can just press the home button and it will return to my 3x3 layout.

Yeah. Seems to only be the 3x3 layout.
Though I didn't know pressing home returned to SB.

I had the same problem. It was because I have too much apps in my folder. If your folder have 8 or less apps it should work.

Works fine for me on my 4.01 iPhone 4. Using the 5x5 layout. Folders work just fine too, although they are still limited to 4 icons per row. Dunno why you're having trouble, but don't tell everyone with an iPhone 4 to stay away just because you can't get it working on yours.

how about stay away if you don't want to gamble. it might cause you to need to restore.

Recent upgrade to 1.6.1 caused very bad things to happen...Watch out. No need to restore, just open the deb on your computer to backtrack all install locations and delete with SSH access. Then reboot and everything is good. WTF though?, this app is notorious for sketchy updates...Something just isn't right. <_<

Care to elaborate?
I'll update this deb to 1.6.1 and I'll edit the postinst to fix these "errors".
