I have been using Groundwire from Acrobits as an SIP client for Sipgate.com for a while.

Today while checking the settings of this app, it shows support for Google Voice!!!

What this means now is that you can setup Google Voice for outbound calling and Gizmo5 or Sipgate for inbound receiving in this single app.

Why is this useful? Well, if you're in the USA, you would use Google Voice for outbound calls (setup to ring to Sipgate or Gizmo5), and you have will free outbound calling without using your expensive AT&T minutes.

Before this, you would have to use GV mobile to dial out and a separate SIP client for receiving the ring-back from GV.

Yes, Softphone is basically the same software.

But if we're talking about Google Voice dialing support, it is new. I hadn't notice it until today.

People call me all the time. I dont even have to have it in background. I start it, let it sign in, it says push handshake, i exit out, remove it from switcher and still get calls.

Well it's still good to start a text with someone new. You don't have to store all your contacts on google. Gv has access to your contacts.

Right, if Groundwire handles text over APNS as well then I'm all set......but the free outbound calling setup with Groundwire is just so clean now, so happy with it.

I think Textfree still handles texting better than GV mobile + tho.

Well,I think we still need GV_mobile at least for the texting and voicemail features. The newer version handles it pretty well.

Text initiation is what I need GV Mobile for, as well as voicemail. For everything else, i can just use Groundwire or i can substitue GV connect, since it has more features anyways,

How did you get this to work?
I can't get groundwire to connect to my sipgate account.
(and I can't get a callback from anyone, either)

When u sign in to your sipgate account on groundwire to setup the acct, use your sipgate 'credentials' found in your sipgate.com settings page. DONT use your online login and password.

When you sign in with GoogleVoice, you need to type in the name you assigned to your SIP phone in the app. I named my sipgate account "sipgate" so I typed that in for my phone name. Don't put in a phone number, it wont work.
