If you have iOS >4.1 then please read this.

Have you noticed that the videos taken with your iphone 4 are more tele than the photos. You can switch from photo mode to video mode to see what I mean.

In this picture you can see the area used by the iphone for video.

If you want to make videos in small rooms or so you get only peoples faces thats annoying IMHO.

I managed to change the settings to get a video with wide angle.

The photo and video section works like this, the sensor has 2592x1936 pixel (4:3) for photos the whole sensor is used. For videos only the crop arear in the center of the sensor is used 1280x720 (16:9).
So my mod lets use the whole sensor not only the center cropped area, but the iphone can not handle a video with 2592x1936 pixel resolution, it resizes this to 1152x864 pixel.
Technicaly this is better quality because the iphone uses 4 sensor pixel to render 1 pixel video, normal settings are 1 pixel sensor 1 pixel video.

All you have to do is to replace the /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/Celestial.framework/N90/AVCapture.plist and reboot.

You get a video with the full range of the sensor, unfortunatel the sensor has a aspect ratio of 4:3 and the standad video ratio of the iphone is 16:9.

1280x720 is the standad and after the wideanglevideo mod you get 1152x864 Pixel.

Thats not what I mean, this is normal because the preview is resized to fill the whole screen.

My mod is a different thing, here are 2 sample videos:

So, do you get an option to choose what "angle" you want to record with?..or do you just get the modded angle after changing the files?

You get the wide angle after the mod. There are no options.

Thank you swirl, I updatet the first post with the 4.1 donload link.

The best way is to rename the original file to AVCapture.plisto and insert the modded one, so you can switch with ifile to the version you need. Dont forget to reboot.

something must be conflicting. when i switch to video mode, the camera freezes and the shutter won't open but i'm able to exit out of the app. you think this has something to do with the 720p upload mod by vintendo?

Try this one please: http://www.multiupload.com/5X5488WQ6S

If the vintendo mod uses the same file it can conflict.

I'm able to record with the latest one but can not play the video. If I trash the file iOS recognize it as a "photo".

The vintendo mod does use the same file, a couple of lines are edited so you can upload hd videos to Facebook and YouTube when not on wifi.

why not just create a vintendo + wide angle mod (presuming they modify completely different lines of code/segments)? One file, one mod.

Sorry, I don't have the modded file since I haven't used any video mods. Although, I might make an exception if you can combine them. Perhaps someone else can give you the file.

This is awesome, however below are some feedback when using it on iPhone 4 ios 4.1:

1. After capturing video, if you try to preview (the left bottom box) from inside camera.app with video mode on, it will make the camera app crash.
2. Video captured with the mod will not play from the Photos apps - its recognizes it as a photo BUT if you open it using iFile, it will play perfectly fine!

am curious probably something to do with the CameraRollValidator.plist, i tried to played with it in the area of VideoMaxHeight and VideoMaxWidth, and voila it was recognized as video when Photo.app is in the thumbnail mode, but still cannot be clicked nor played.. ... hmmm theres couple of other files.. MediaValidator.plist and PassthroughTrimValidator.plist...

finally got it to work but i don't think i'm gonna keep this mod. i think apple chose to crop the video for image stabilization. when recording in full resolution the video moves like jelly and i think the frame rate suffers a bit. i've uploaded some examples.

wide mod

standard

Hell yeah too good to be true! but its true! woohoo :teehee:   :teehee:

it doesn't work straight out-of-the box (maybe u r using 3GS AVCapture.plist?), so i had to re-use the modified AVCapture.plist that you uploaded for 4.1 before in your original post. The rest, is using the two files that you added.

It totally rocks - wide angle for my iphone 4! :teehee:   :teehee: thanks Fasoaga!!!!

@swirl: i did noticed a bit of jelly moves but not as much as in the video u've uploaded. maybe u should try the method i used using the old mod AVCapture.plist?
