Since this is my first post i figured i might as well post a basic how-to on how you can optimize ios4.1 on your jailbroken iPhone 3g.

for those who didn't enable/doesn't want the extra features of iOS4 (multitasking, wallpapers) follow steps 2, 5, 6 and 8
(i played around with the 3G without the extra iOS4 features and at least for me there's not much difference speedwise between having the multitasking on and disabling it BUT i did have a 60-65 MB free memory with occasional 70 MB on idle. so it's your choice guys.)

1.) First off download zToggle in cydia if you haven't enabled multitasking and backgrounds.

2.) install sbsettings in cydia

3.)install removerecents in cydia

4.) install & run backgrounder go to Global > check backgrounder as backgrounding method. "fall back to native" is off. turn off "enable at launch". "stay enabled" is on. "minimize on toggle" is on. press back button on top left of backgrounder & go to "control via activator" set backgrounder to "double press home button"

5.) go to settings>general>spotlight search and uncheck everything you don't need.

6.)install FolderEnhancer on cydia (this will speed up your folder access & remove the 12 app limit of the folders.)it's a paid app but i'm sure you'll find a way.. :whistling:

7.) respring
-=== sbsettings idle memory should be around 41-50 MB when you press "free memory"==-

8.) optional: follow this guide to further increase your idle memory. http://xsellize.com/...launch-daemons/

9.) reboot

-=== sbsettings idle memory should be around 51-60+ MB when you press "free memory==- that's half the available memory of a 3G iPhone

* guys, post results. :D

*will update this guide as soon as i figure out what triggers my phone to register my free memory around 70 MB at times.

*mods delete if already posted. thanks! :P

Welcome, good first post.

Although, I am against a few things when it comes to OPTIMIZING iPhone 3G:

Dont Enable Backgrounding or Wallpaper
Dont install SBSettings (until Activator dependency is removed)
You wont need Remove Recents if you dont enable Backgrounding.
Dont install Backgrounder - 3G wasnt made for Backgrounding.
iPhone 4, 4.3.3, AT&T
iPod Touch 4G, 5.0b1
iPhone 3G, 3.1.3, Unlocked

Thanks! :D i only use backgrounder to have a finer control over w/c apps can multitask. as in exceptions you can set specific apps to run apple's multitasking.
im just wondering, is there any alternative to sbsettings? :P
